Equine Assisted Learning

Honest mirrors

Horses are remarkably honest. They don’t lie.

They respond to energy, body language, emotion – not words – which makes them powerful mirrors for self-discovery and great teachers.

How it works

Equine Assisted Learning uses ground-based activities with horses (no riding involved) to build self-awareness, confidence, communication, and emotional regulation. It’s experiential – you learn by doing, noticing, and reflecting, guided by the horses’ feedback in real time

In these sessions, you will work with horses on the ground through simple, guided exercises. There is no “wrong” way to do this – whatever comes up becomes part of the learning, whether it’s about confidence, communication, boundaries or trust.

The Core Idea

Horses are incredibly sensitive to body language, tone and energy – they are prey animals, so reading intent and emotion is their survival skill. Because of this, they react honestly and immediately to how a person is feeling or behaving – even when that person isn’t consciously aware of it themselves. A facilitator uses this natural responsiveness to help people learn about things like:

  • Leadership and confidence
  • Communication (verbal and non verbal)
  • Emotional awareness and regulation
  • Trust-building
  • Boundaries and assertiveness
  • Teamwork & relationship dynamics
Note

A Note on Care

Talking to another person is hard. Horses are honest and without agenda - they simply teach us, in real time, how we are today. It somehow makes it easier to hear.

This is not therapy in a clinical sense (that’s a related but distinct field called Equine Assisted Psychotherapy)
